This beautiful bangle is made out of horn. The contrast on design adds character to the piece, breaking the monotony and stunningly blending with any skin tone.
Handcrafting Process
The horn is usually sliced to the desired thickness with a special tool. The inner and outer layer is then sanded to a smooth finish and then hand painted various designs like animal print and traditional symbols among others.
Educational Value
The natives encouraged preservation of nature and therefore the remains of materials that were vital to sustain the community would always find purpose.
Additionally, some of the decorations were traditional symbols and animal print that served as a tool for transfer of knowledge from one generation to the other. The families would always gather by the fireplace after dinner where the elders would tell stories that captured the imagination of the young curious minds.
The Zebra was depicted as a symbol of beauty and yet due to its identical body structure of a donkey, it also symbolized hard work. The young ladies were therefore encouraged to embrace their beauty but also pair it with hard work and resourcefulness. This was to prepare them to nurture the future communities that shape a better world.
